Dr. Naveem Pemmaraju completed his internal medicine training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Osler Medical Residency program and his hematology and oncology training at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He is currently an associate professor in the department of leukemia at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He has an active, busy clinical schedule caring for patients, in addition to his teaching schedule. His clinical and translational research work has been focused on improving outcomes and developing novel therapies for adolescents, young adults, and older adult patients with blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN), myeloproliferative neoplasms, and acute myeloid leukemia. Under the mentorship of Dr. Hagop Kantarjian and Dr. Marina Konopleva, he has been able to establish MD Anderson’s first active BPDCN clinic — which now serves as a nationwide referral base — and a highly active BPDCN research program with infrastructure and support for clinical and translational studies.
