Hi Judy. You can try a couple of useful techniques to dissolve anxiety and panic. Both take practice. One is a grounding technique and involves repeated sensual focusing. Counsellors call this 5-4-3-2-1 for the process. You name 5 things you see, 5 things you hear, 5 things you smell, 5 things you taste, and 5 things you sense in your body. Then do it all over, 4 times, 3 times and so forth. Your anxiety ought to be diminished. Block breathing is also very helpful. We tend not to breath properly with anxiety or panic. Take a breath deep into your belly, hold it for a few seconds, then release more slowly and then hold your breath again for a few seconds. Breathe deeply again. Do this for several minutes, comfortably. You should feel more relaxed.

Managing anxiety and panic attacks, especially when dealing with leukemia, can be challenging. Here are some strategies from the knowledge base:

- Practice Relaxation Techniques: Breathing exercises and meditation can help. One member mentioned that breathing exercises help with anxiety and sleep problems, while another found meditation useful for grounding and focusing on the present.
- Stay Busy: Engage in positive distractions like watching a movie, reading a book, or finding a new hobby. Light exercise can also be beneficial, but check with your doctor first.
- Reshape Your Thoughts: Set a time limit to think about your worries and focus on solutions. Try to reframe your thoughts to focus on the present rather than worst-case scenarios.
- Seek Support: Connect with others who understand your situation, either through support groups or online communities like MyLeukemiaTeam.
- Let Go of Control: Use strategies like guided imagery, organizing your space, or reaching out for support to help let go of things you can't control.

If anxiety or panic attacks are severe, it's important to seek professional help.
