Breathlessness and Fatigue

A MyLeukemiaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Britain

These are not worrying questions but enquiring questions. 1: why do I sometimes get a sudden bout of breathlessness but if I go jogging or weight lifting I am fine.
2. If when feeling fatigue it goes away when I do something strenuous such as bashing the tree stump in my garden with a sledge hammer??
3. When ever any one posts me on this site it cheers me up and I feel happier

Members offered thoughtful advice for someone experiencing unexplained breathlessness and fatigue, with many encouraging a sleep study to rule out sleep apnea, which several members credited with dramatically improving their energy levels after getting a CPAP machine. Several members shared practical tips that have helped them manage similar symptoms, including deep breathing exercises learned from combat diving training, using inhalers for respiratory support, pacing activities to avoid overexertion, and taking supplements to boost energy. A recurring theme was the emotional lift that comes from community connection, with members expressing how supportive conversations like these brighten their spirits and help them feel less alone in navigating the physical and emotional toll of chronic illness.

Hi Dennis & Ajaya, my heart Dr. suggested a sleep evaluation for apnea. I said no way do I have that problem although my wife would say I was snoring. Well, I was totally blown away by the results! I have been using a C-Pap for a year. As for the fatigue I found that with more sleep (10+hrs) I don't get fatigued. I have CLL, still no treatment plan.

Hi Ajau, Paul, BarbLH, DenisRolain and Mrbsanata
Very good answers and suggestions from you all. I am not sure if I have sleep apnoea but will speak to my Dr, my sleep is usually interrupted by extreme itching . I am constantly being monitored by my Consultant and my Cancer Practise Nurse and they are wonderful bearing mind here in England we have the NHS and good job too other wise I couldn't afford my treatment for when doing my research into the cost of my current meds it costs the NHS over £230,000 annually, it was much more than this when I was on 19meds per day until I complained about the cost and pointing out that the NHS is paying £146000 annually just for my chemo meds Venetoclax . I found out via my research that the cost to the Pharmaceutical company for each tablet was only £3.10 yet it charges £100.00 for each of my chemo tablet's Note: 18/ Nov 2021 · To put this into numbers £30 billion has been spent by the pharmaceutical companies rewarding GPs for prescribing their drugs. This is awful and now that nurses can prescribe medicines the salesmen from the pharmaceutical companies are visiting hospitals here in the UK to encourage nurses to prescribe their products. My sister-in-law a nurse said that nurses in the main are not succumbing to these offers. Its time Governments stood up against this so let us all start lobbying our governments to question these costs. Good luck every one and thank you for your advice and support. God be with you.,

I think we have something in common? I jogged in the past and split my oak to heat my house. I notice that my breathing automatically increases like when I jog when I exercise which did not occur so quick in the past. I notice that after climbing 4 flights of stairs my breathing increased. After splitting oak for 15 minutes my breathing increases. My red blood cells are normal but the increased white cells seem to crowd out the red cells so my 4 liter lung capacity is not enough now. I try to pace myself and do enough to personally make myself happy with what I accomplish each day. Reading posting here is very good medicine for my spirit which makes me happy.

A sleep study might be a good idea. I have had a CPAP machine since 2015. Sleep apnea can really damage your heart to a point where you can die. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm speaking from first hand experience. Have it checked out please Dennis.

Hi Dennis,
I’m CLL and I also get occasionally bouts of this. It happens when I don’t expect it and I’m thankful that it passes. Are you in treatment or just watch and wait like me? Ajaya’s suggestion to let your doctor know is a fine one.
