Has Anyone With Chronic Leukemia (CLL/CML, Etc.) Been Denied Social Security Disability?

A MyLeukemiaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I saw a social media post several weeks ago where many people suffering from leukemia have been repeatedly denied social security disability. Then I got a denial letter too. I know of many people with less serious conditions that have been approved.

I'm in the process of waiting to see if I get approved or not. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

It's incredible isn't it? Breast cancer is very curable but leukemia is forever. I'm sorry to say that after 3 years of living with leukemia that the average person doesn't understand that leukemia is an uncurbable cancer simply because it's not called leukemia cancer. God help us...

I got leukemia in 2002 January I was staying sick I got a lawyer and we fought to get me disability bc they turned me down on ssi bc I didn’t have enough work credits and they said my husband made to much but yet we was barely making it with two kids and I finally got the ssi disability but ever time they sent me a check two days later they was say they gave me too much and I had to send it back I eventually lost it but luckily tenncare said no you are disabled you are keeping the insurance which was a big help but last year they took that away and said I could only get it or disability if I had breast cancer or something mentally disabled so I fought it but the judge said I had no proof I needed it besides the cancer and that was not good enough

I was denied social security disability because of my age. I’m 73. If your 65 or younger and apply you should receive it!! After 65 forget it, it doesn’t make sense but those are the rules. After 65 if your destitute you’ll get a megar ssi added to your social security income. They don’t care your fighting for your life every day!
Thank God for my family helping us financially or we’d be on the street with the homeless .
Oh the golden years!
