Betty, I'm a patient at MD Anderson; I was diagnosed with CLL about a year and a half ago. I lived in the Houston area until Jan '23 but now live in Seneca, SC. I started my treatment with MD Anderson before i left and continue to be a patient of MD Anderson while I'm here in SC. I wanted to keep my connection with MD Anderson (and they will do long distance patients) if, and when I might need to start treatment. Well, my treatment may start sooner than I expected. I did my most recent blood work about 5 days ago and it looks like my AB Lymphocytes has doubled in two months; not good. I have a teleconference with my MD Anderson oncologist on Jan 5th. I'm anxious to hear what he will recommend. I do highly recommend MD Anderson. The way they do this business is just first class. Whatever you have going on; they've seen it a 1,000 times before. it's comforting to know that. I'll keep you posted on what they recommend for me.

I am not thrilled with my oncologist/hematologist but have stuck with him since treatment decisions look really simple to me for cll based on my reading unless you get a nasty like Richter's. Choose a BTK inhibitor with or without an immunotherapy agent and away you go. It is amazing how much these guys get paid for often rudimentary work! Well, managing side effects can be complicated but with luck you won't need that. Just a bloak but I read well!

Betty, I have been seeing Dr. Sano for a year. Once you are in, changing Dr’s is not that hard. I worked there for 16 years, if you need some help navigating the monstrosity that is the U, just reach out.

MD Anderson in Houston is fantastic! I went there for an adrenal gland tumor. The oncologist was 1 of ten in the world that could do it by scope! I had approx 2 yrs of watch and see testing before it was removed. He told me I could die during procedure! Yikes. He explained it carefully. All went well! It wasn’t malignant but was headed that way! MD Anderson and Oschners are one now. I go to Oschners in New Orleans. I am seen by our local Oschner oncologist but all instructions come from New Orleans. They are all so very nice. They truly care about you.
