I May Have To Go On A Chemo Pill For The 1st Time At My Next Review. Are U On These For Life? I See Folk Saying They Are On An Off At Times
Fingers crossed and lots of prayers
Good question. I just started Calquence and am having a port installed so I can do an infusion protocol. I assume that chemo by pill is based on how each individual responds to treatment. However, it is a question best directed to your Doc.
After reading about it for 2 years, I think a lot has to do with your age. Some people have been on it for 23 years and then you read 4-5 years. I have been on gleevec for 2 years now, its not to bad if you learn when to take the pill, drink plenty of water and try to sleep on your left side to reduce acid reflux if you do get it.everybody gets different side effects on meds, dont be scared, any questions can be answered by the group, just let us know what name and dose the doc. Prescribed. Dont sweat it, take care.
Does the chemo pill kill the cancer cells? Or just stop progression?
I don't know how long I will be taking Calquence. The prescription says 6 refills so that is 6 more months. I will be doing the infusion protocol in June so I think it is likely that the length of time taking the pills depends wholly on how I respond to the treatments. The goal is remission so I hope to reach that point and quit the pills.
