according to my research very vague. 5 years is usually what is thrown out. However, IMO blood cancers affect every part of your body so can turn into another disease or cancer. That said, we are in an era of new drugs - BTK's etc. and even the hope of stem cells. I think we all try to keep calm and carry on balancing hope and reality. I'm 9 years witg 4th new drug onboard, stage 3/4. Latest oncologist said this newest drug if tolerated would be my "cure" of an incurable cancer. We will see. Do your research and find the best doctors all around for you. You never know where wisdom comes from. Good luck

I have seen posting by people who have been ill for 10, 20, or longer years. People of all ages 50, 60, 70, 80, etc.share good information about their experience with this illness. Leukemia is only 4% of all cancers. There are many different medications for all types of of Leukemias. I think if a person eats healthy and exercises they can have a long healthy and happy life. I am 72 and get around like I am 40. I eat healthy exercise and I am happy. My treatment (Brukinsa) is great with no ill affects. Much of the information posted here is out dated and has suspect information? I think the unknown is a issue with giving a person doubt. This team environment is a library of knowledge which can provide good information to resolve concerns.

The life expectancy for someone with leukemia varies based on several factors, including the type of leukemia, the stage at diagnosis, overall health, and response to treatment. Here are some key points from my knowledge base:

- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL):
- Children and people under 20: Five-year survival rate is 89%.
- Adults 20 and older: Five-year survival rate is 38%.

- Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML):
- Five-year survival rate for both children and adults is 90%.
- Overall, about 7 out of 10 people with CML will live for five years or more after diagnosis.

- General Factors Influencing Prognosis:
- Age
- Phase of leukemia (chronic, accelerated, or blast)
- Levels of blasts in blood or bone marrow
- White and red blood cell counts
- Platelet counts
- Presence of certain gene or chromosome changes
- Levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in the blood
- Other health conditions

For personalized information, it's best to consult with a healthcare provider who can discuss individual prognostic factors and likely survival rates.
