I was diagnosed in April 2018 with CLL. my numbers went up December 2021. I had chemo, lost my Immune system, went into remission, then got diagnosed with Systemic Mastocytosis and I'm sick all over again

I take medication which "controls" the WBC count which was 75K but today is 8K. I understand the BTK Inhibitor effect and how the chemical attacks to WBC to inactive the cell. The medication does not attack organs or healthy cells. I understand that the medication may become ineffective in the future as cells change or mutate. There are new medications which may replace the current BTK Inhibitors with chemicals which combat WBC by other methods. These new methods may cost a quarter million or more for a signal does. The magazine CURE issue 9/24 lists interesting medications in development for combating excess WBC.

I think doctor and medical people should change from "remission" (getting better but possible ill in the future?) to "control" (reduced infection but possible ill infection in the future.) The possibility of being ill in the future is not stressed with treatments or medication? So far the "cure" is NOT used which is very helpful and prevents confusion. My medication information utilizes the "control" versus the word "remission."

I had 3 months of radiation therapy after having a Liposarcoma removed. My WBC dropped back to normal. But unfortunately just as my doctor stated, my WBC is coming back. According to my oncologist, for CLL patients there is about an 80% chance the WBC will rise. However, I'm still at stage 0, praise God!

I'm sorry to hear about your health challenges. Based on my knowledge base, here are some relevant points:

- Recurrence of CLL: Regular checkups, including blood tests and imaging, are crucial to monitor for any signs of CLL returning. Approximately 40% to 70% of leukemia survivors report fearing their cancer will return.
- Remission Monitoring: After achieving remission, follow-up visits every four to six weeks are recommended to catch any disease relapse early.
- Survivorship Care Plan: It's advisable to have a survivorship care plan to monitor for symptoms and schedule regular screenings.
