My father was diagnosed at nearly the same age as I am, 59 and died of AML related illness 40 days after his stem cell replacement. That was in 2002.
The mutation i have is DDX41. Less than 2% of MDS/ AML patients have that mutation. Roughly 90% have it due to being passed down genetically.
We are working with a geneticist to screen the family tree to identify any one that is carrying the mutation. If the do, it may not become active, but they can test for it and be aware. In the future. Hoping there will be a fix.

Well CLL is normally excess B or T cells which are 1 of 5 white blood cells (WBC?) It would be a medical concern if WBC were found in semen? I think the genetic mutation would be in the semen so the possible passing on the illness to the next generation is possible? I let my children know that they may have a future surprise but there are many medications for the different leukemias. In the past I as not worried about birth defects but I now understand that now more defects are occurring in each generation? don't worry about infecting another person but there is a possibility of sharing a WBC mutation with the next generation?
