Sprycel Rising WBC?

A MyLeukemiaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Seattle, WA

I started Sprycel (first TKI) about 9 days ago. Since starting my wbc has gone up 20,000. I also stopped Hydroxyurea at the same time.

Anyone experience this?

I just stopped taking hydroxyurea and started taking gleevec today....diagnosed with cml...my white cells were 82 at initial bloodwork and then jumped to 118 due to my extreme stress response, i went on vacation and came back and they were back down to 92..this was before i started taking anything at all. then i started the hydroxyurea and the day i had my bone marrow biopsy they were 99, im guessing again higher due to stress.. that was six days ago.. i wont have them checked again for a few more days.. but ijust saw your post and was wondering if your count has come down since then? also how are the side effects of sprycel for you? im taking the gleevec but id still like to know

Sprycel (Dasatinib) is a medication used to treat certain types of leukemia, including chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). It works by inhibiting the growth of leukemia cells.

A high white blood cell (WBC) count can be an indicator of leukemia or a side effect of certain medications used in leukemia treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

If you notice a rising WBC count while on Sprycel, it is important to discuss this with your healthcare provider, as it may indicate how well the treatment is working or if adjustments are needed.
