What Determines Or What Does An Oncologist Look At To Say A Patient With CLL/SLL Is In Remission?

Hi Mary, on this group a message can't be too long especially when you are explaining medical stuff, because it's really important to understand the in's and out's. Wow, that's just shows how important another (better doctor) opinion can be. The old adage, "did you get another opinion?" Taking the time to go back into the medical notes on ones dx is really important too. I need to make that time happen for myself. The political crap is so distracting these days but so important too. We don't want to lose our cancer drug support and the oncologists that dx us. All of it is so threatening! I really enjoyed your post and thank you for sharing your thyroid nodule experience.

We may be infected with excess WBC but we must fight to eat healthy and exercise. If we let depression or if we have a bad day we can always take a walk or eat a healthy meal the next day. Pacing ourselves is how we manage the good and bad daze. I find the little I do every day is effective with my maintaining a happy and healthy life. I do have a day off and I feel good to relax because I know the next day I will be more active. I hope more people realize they set their pace and they should be happy with their accomplishments. I think just making to th next day is a win.

Wishing you the very very best with your appointment on Nov 4 Mary. Yes, good that they checked for other cancers and they found nothing, however, Not good that they are not getting to the root cause of why such a huge drop in weight, etc. Meds do cause all sorts of side effects as you already know, but I haven't seen where people lose so much weight because of meds. We're all different tho. Does not help your situation at all that your doctor is evasive, etc. Maybe in the future, find another doctor? We all deal with so much physically and mentally every single day and to have a doctor that is arrogant, not easy to talk to, evasive, etc etc. only adds more to our frustration.

Norlin, I hope all goes well with your CT scan on Monday and that you will receive all your strength back. It sounds like you have been through a lot. Thank you for your posts. I have an appointment with my oncologist on November 4th who is a doctor in the fellowship program. He is in training to be an oncologist. My previous doctor was in the same program, but she graduated and is now an oncologist at the City of Hope. She was a very caring and remarkable doctor that made sure you received the best care. She was the one that spoke up about my thyroid. Well, my doctor now is different. He can say that my blood work is good, and he is ready to send in his attending doctor like your visit is over with him. Besides having thyroid cancer in 2022, within the last year I have been going through so many health issues, including unintentionally weigh loss of over 30 pounds and weigh only 104 pounds now. I have had so many various scans and test. My oncologist and his attending doctor said one day that there was nothing they can do since all of my test came back negative for another cancer. I have been getting a lot of bruising, which has been normal for me with taking Plavix and Imbruvica, but now multiple purpuras in various areas, which is new for me. My doctor agreed to see me about taking Imbruvica and make some type of change. I have been told that Imbruvica could cause some of the problems that I am having and will discuss those things with him also. He is not the easiest person to talk with and it is frustrating.

Hi Mary, your post struck me, and of course I'm so glad you beat breast cancer, as my sister did, but esophagus cancer killed her last December. I have an old girl friend who also beat Breast Cancer and she has devoted her remaining years helping other cancer patients. As we all know these cancers are life changing in so many ways. My partner Annita got her results yesterday on her thyroid nodules and only one changed that raised an eyebrow. I just related to her that you had cancer at different times on different sides of your throat. That's where this group shares such pertinent information, thank you for sharing that. I had squamous cell on my nose and next to my left eye before I got CLL with Covid pneumonia in August 2022. The similaries are something, just not sure what. lol but please know I appreciate your post and God bless your soul.
