I Have AML And Relentless ITCHING From Head To Toe. Has Anyone Overcome This Problem? Thank You!
My hematologist told me not to scratch believe it or not, imagine him with an itch I bet he scratches, it's so hard not to, and tells me to keep my nails short, great advice from Donald Duck.
Hi Tryingtosurvive, I was diagnosed with AML in November of 2019. Since then, I have had two periods of full body itching accompanied by a rash. The first was early in my diagnosis and the doctors were very puzzled by the cause of my rash. Eventually, my doctor diagnosed it as neutrophilic dermatosis. He also started me on a new chemo drug, Vidaza, and that helped get my leukemia under control and the rash and itching went away. The second was after my stem cell transplant, I had very severe GVHD of the skin. We tried Prednisone and steroid creams which were ineffective. Eventually, I started on the drug Jakafi and also started photopheresis treatments which got my GVHD under control. Today, I have a little bit of a skin rash but no itching. My doctor is confident the rash will go away in time. Your situation might be totally different than mine, and I don't know where you are in the progression of this disease or treatment plan, but I feel for you. I know that the itchiness can make life miserable. I hope you get some relief soon. I am adding you to my team if that is OK. Feel free to reach out and hopefully I can help in some way. Hang in there.
I have AML and the itching drives me mad and because my platelets are decreasing, I then bruise easily.
I have that itching all the time. I love hot showers, but I read you shouldn't take hot showers and since I haven't been takin h a real hot shower it's better we r. Plus I use Aveeno cream it helps.
