After My First Set Of Chemo

A MyLeukemiaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Augusta, GA

I just finished up my first set of 6 months. (It actually took 9 months due to Covid and hospitalization) What happens next? I had a PET SCAN and was told that the chemo is helping, but I still have nodes in a few of the places that I had in the beginning. If chemo is helping then why did the doctors stop the Chemo? I don’t understand.
I have cll, I know that I’ll live with it for the rest of my life, but if something is helping why stop it?

Idk , could be because chemo is hard on your body. Maybe they felt you needed a break.
Maybe your Dr. just wants to see how your body is going to react.
I have almost always been on something for mine.
Definitely ask your oncologist?
Anytime you have a question about your health or about any kind of treatment you get.
And if you don’t understand.
Don’t stop asking till you do understand.
Hugs and prayers

Not sure I have had cll for 15 years and have not needed any treatment yet. I would ask your oncologist why they have stopped.

Then I would suggest to definitely discuss the issue with your oncologist or a member of your care team to learn more about the specifics of your CLL so you have better bearings on your cancer journey. You have to be your best advocate. Good luck and I hope you get some answers soon.

Our attitude is really the only thing that we have control of...I'm not saying it's easy for any of us but we can win this battle....

All this is new to us...Sometimes I think we are part of a experiment to see what works...The CT scan or PetScan every 6 months will help the team of doctors tell if chemo worked enough to get rid of all the bad cells...I'm sure your doctor has a game plan to continue the best treatment....they don't have all the answers but have learned alot over the last 20 years to give us extended lives....Hang in there!
