If I Am In Remission, And No Longer Need To Take Calquence, Why Do Still Have Fatigue And Chemo Brain?

A MyLeukemiaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Frankenmuth, MI

I have been in remission for 7 months, and off Calquence for 40 days. Does the fatigue and 'nervous system involvement ' ever go away?

Marie... I received an reply from 'My Leukemia. Yes, the drugs are more substantial than I would let on to be. There are possibilities for physical and physiological side effect, some short time, some long time, and sometimes permanent. We've been getting an unusually large amounts of rain lately... I have some tomato plants that are taller than me... that's a six foot fence.

Salim... I have built up.my stamina quite a bit, doing gardening and some landscaping, and I sure am eating much more healthy. .... hence the large garden of fresh vegetables.

I see both my PCP and my Oncologist soon, and will need to make sure my heart problem hasn't returned and what is the cause of my lower gastrointestinal struggles.

You need to do vigorous exercise for 5 days a week for at least 20 minutes each. Also eat lots of fruits and vegetables every day and drink at least 64 ounces of water.
Try this for a week. You will feel a lot better

Fatigue and chemo brain can persist even after stopping treatment for several reasons:

- Cancer-Related Factors: The stress, anxiety, and depression associated with a leukemia diagnosis can affect memory and cognitive function.
- Previous Treatments: Chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and other treatments can have lasting effects on cognitive function.
- Other Health Conditions: Conditions like anemia, infections, and other preexisting health issues can contribute to ongoing fatigue and cognitive changes.
- Medications: Some medications used during treatment may have lingering side effects.

It's important to discuss these symptoms with your doctor to identify the cause and find ways to manage them.

I think chem brain or chemicals which affect the brain is not something that clears in a short time? The drugs may be entrenched to the cells which causes the chemo brain thinking loss. I think when the tissue is clean the thinking process will be better? Exposure to chemo drugs are affecting the brain which is now an ill affect.
