When I was getting Vidaza shots, I had intolerable itching. I was prescribed Hydroxyzine (Atarax) which helped but did cause me to sleep a lot.

For burning and itchy skin related to chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), some patients have found relief using topical treatments. Here are a few options that might help:

1. **Topical Steroids and Lidocaine Mixtures**: These can be effective in easing skin symptoms. They reduce inflammation and numb the area, which might help with the burning sensation.

2. **Moisturizers and Emollients**: Keeping the skin moisturized can help reduce dryness and itchiness. Look for products that are fragrance-free and designed for sensitive skin.

3. **Cool Compresses**: Applying cool compresses to the affected areas can provide immediate, albeit temporary, relief from itching and burning.

It's important to consult with your healthcare provider before trying new treatments, especially when dealing with side effects from chemotherapy. They can provide personalized advice and may prescribe stronger medications if over-the-counter options are not effective.
