There is great information here. The one thing I learned is you have to be careful which support group you go to. I went to one support group where all they talked about was "poor me". It was not positive. Make sure you find one that is positive and fits your needs. You do not need anymore negativity in your life trying to battle any type of Leukemia. There are great people with great suggestions on this sight. Don't be afraid to ask any question. No question is stupid.

I come to this forum to learn? This help me mentally and I feel better after reading a posting or helping by posting an answer? I think when we have unanswered questions we begin to worry which just adds to our troubles? Write down questions you want answers to and find an answer? After visiting my doctor for 2 years I wanted medication before it was to late. I was given a medication with works without side affects. I hope you explore the RESOURCES section to find information about your illness. Personally I do not like the word "cancer" since it means difficult medical problems? I hope you can find answers and my health and happiness are better and better each day.

Make sure you go to a cancer center where the best available treatments are followed and where the staff is understanding and supportive. I went to Memorial Sloan Kettering. They made me feel that they would do everything they could to make me comfortable and find a cure. They did. I had a BMT 5 years ago. As difficult as it is, stay positive. Find another person who has been through what you are going through and a support group. The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society can help you with this as well as the social work department where you are being treated. Be good to yourself. Try to eat well and walk, especially out side where you can enjoy the beautiful spring and summer weather.

Diagnosed with AML in Dec. 2022-came out of nowhere. No family history of cancer. Next day after diagnosis got 3 units of blood transfusion. 2 days later I was in the hospital getting strong chemo & stayed 30 days. My only visitors were my son & his wife & 3 sons on weekends. I was overwhelmed & dealing with chemo side effects so my mental health declined. BUT . . . I learned to be my own advocate. I learned as much as I could about AML & treatments. After release from hospital I immediately got a psychiatrist & therapist. Find someone you can talk to so you can share how you feel & what you’re going through. Love yourself & listen to your body’s communication. I like to write so I journal.
This site is a great place for information, answers to questions & encouragement.
