I have been in remission since 2003, I was told at that time, that the only other option was a marrow transplant, but I am fairly sure there have been other advances since then.

I am currently in remission. My oncologist told me that when I go out of remission, there are other effective targeted oral medications we still haven’t used in the weapons arsenal.

For relapsed Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), the treatment strategy often involves a combination of therapies. Here are the key components:

1. **Chemotherapy**: This is typically the initial treatment for relapsed AML. The aim is to reduce the number of leukemia cells.

2. **Targeted Therapy**: If the AML cells have specific genetic mutations, targeted therapies may be used. These drugs specifically attack those mutations.

3. **Stem Cell Transplant**: Often considered for patients in a second remission, a stem cell transplant can be a crucial option to try to cure the leukemia.

4. **Clinical Trials**: Exploring clinical trials is highly recommended, as they provide access to new therapies that might be more effective for specific cases of relapsed AML.

Each treatment plan is tailored to the individual's specific situation, considering factors like the subtype of AML, previous treatments, and overall health.
