Dec Will be 3 years since being diagnosed with CML. My haematologist says in Feb they will take me off Imatinib as she believes I am cured.

We are in the 21st century and there are smart people developing good medications to treat many illnesses. I was approved to take a medication 2/24 which was FDA approved 12/22. The medication has been very effective without any ill affects. There may be some issues with new medications but I believe there will be more cures from medications in the future.

I was diagnosed in August 2024 with CML. With wbc of 400+...went on Scemblix. 3 weeks later I am at 5.5. Also rbc was low and now it's normal. No side effects from the meds. Still have a bone marrow biopsy in November.. Not cured by any means but it is looking up. Thank you Jesus, thank you Lord 🙏🙏

I read somewhere that we are the guinea pigs for the next generation. I had a very close friend who was diagnosed in the 1990s with CML. Her medication and experience was so different from mine. She was a pioneer for the treatment I have used. She thought of it as helping a future patient diagnosed with CML. Sadly she died in 2003. The drugs I have been able to use were just coming into the Doctor's hands in 2003. I have adopted her thought process. We may not have a cure for CML yet, but what they learn from treating me may help them find a cure for some future patient. They have come so far from the early 2000s. Hopefully we will be part of the cure. Wishing all a wonderful day.--jmb

Hi Scott. Sorry to hear you’ve been struggling. 24 years is amazing though. I’ve been super lucky with Gleevec/Imatinib… but I also realise things could change. I’m very nervous about stopping the treatment when it’s working…
